UNDP IRAQ • CLIMATE MITIGATION

Iraq’s NDC 3.0

Built all-IPCC-sector mitigation models across energy, industry, waste and LULUCF.
Produced BAU and mitigation scenarios, BTR/inventory alignment and the ICTU table under the Paris Agreement ETF.

Authored Iraq’s NDC 3.0 mitigation chapter and led the technical pathway from greenhouse-gas evidence to agreed mitigation scenarios. The work combined sector modelling, policy review and stakeholder engagement with senior Iraqi decision makers and UNDP-supported working sessions.

Article 6 readiness

Developed institutional and operational recommendations on authorisation, reporting, tracking, governance and MRV.
Turned Article 6 requirements into practical readiness questions for Iraqi policy institutions and senior stakeholders.

Developed Article 6 institutional and operational recommendations for Iraq through the UNFCCC CiACA programme with the World Green Economy Organization. The work focused on the governance and technical systems needed for credible participation in international carbon markets.

Developed evidence on short-lived climate pollutants across Iraq’s electricity, oil and gas systems.
Identified mitigation opportunities and validated sectoral data with national stakeholders.

Delivered international consultancy for UNEP and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition on short-lived climate pollutants in Iraq. The assignment connected emissions evidence across electricity, oil and gas with mitigation opportunities and national data validation.

Climate mobility, carbon markets & energy

Delivered cross-sector workshops spanning climate mobility, carbon markets and energy-sector modelling.
Connected climate impacts, people and energy choices in a shared decision framework for Iraqi and KRI partners.

Delivered workshops with IOM and national and regional partners across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The work made the connections between climate impacts, human mobility and energy-system choices explicit for policy discussion across humanitarian, economic and climate priorities.

Kurdistan policy dialogue

Designed and delivered workshops on MRV systems, carbon markets and evidence-based policy making.
Translated international climate requirements into institutional questions, data needs and usable decision tools.

At the invitation of the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister’s Office, developed and delivered policy workshops on MRV systems, carbon markets and evidence-based policy making. The focus was on decision-ready institutional capacity rather than generic awareness raising.

Iraq climate conference

Brought whole-system energy evidence into national discussion on climate impacts, mitigation and delivery trade-offs.
Linked climate ambition with the operational realities of Iraq’s energy system and policy choices.

Contributed invited expert evidence to Iraq’s climate-change conference, connecting mitigation ambition with energy-system realities. The contribution focused on the choices, assumptions and delivery conditions that turn broad objectives into action.

Climate-policy dialogue

Brought evidence-based Iraqi climate and energy perspectives to an international business and policy forum.
Contributed to SB60 and SB62 dialogue, connecting Iraqi experience with multilateral climate diplomacy.

Contributed as a speaker to Iraqi–British Business Council forums at COP28 on evidence-based policy and climate impacts, and participated in SB60 and SB62 dialogue. These engagements connected Iraqi energy and climate priorities with international policy and diplomatic discussion.

UKERC • INDUSTRIAL DECARBONISATION

Research-to-policy delivery

Delivered UKERC project outputs as a Research Fellow.
First-author electricity-network research informed Climate Change Committee advice.

UKERC research delivery translated industrial decarbonisation and electricity-network evidence into practical policy outputs. The work combined industrial electricity-demand projections with distribution-network capacity data, creating a direct link from research to national advice.

Received formal DESNZ recognition for the technical modelling contribution.

Technical advisory work for the UK Government supported industrial technology, energy-use and emissions modelling. The contribution was formally recognised by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Led development and validation of industrial-decarbonisation pathways for the Seventh Carbon Budget.
Integrated energy costs, carbon prices and technology assumptions into policy-ready evidence.

Consultancy work for the Climate Change Committee developed and validated industrial-decarbonisation pathways for the Seventh Carbon Budget. The work translated modelling assumptions into the evidence needed to advise on credible UK climate-policy choices.
